Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon
This position is suitable for a veterinarian who is confident in handling routine consults and presentations and seeks a new challenge. The employer will provide support for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in any clinical area of interest. They welcome individuals aspiring for a more leadership-oriented role or seeking to mentor others. The caseload entails the expected variety in general practice, offering exposure to surgeries for a new vet.
The practice also accommodates orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeons for complex cases, along with cardiologists willing to support the team for those interested in their specialty.
The weekend rota is 1 in 4, which includes the sole charge requirement. Full-time hours involve working four days a week, with flexibility in working patterns discussed during the interview. Previous arrangements allowed a departing vet to work 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off, accommodating personal needs. The practice is willing to explore similar working patterns for candidates willing to cover 1 in 4 weekends.
Standard consultations are set at 15 minutes, extendable for emergencies and specific presentations to provide adequate time for case workup. Attention to detail and high levels of client care are valued. Additionally, the practice schedules administration time and allocates ‘on-the-day’ appointments to accommodate unexpected cases.
The location is well-connected in terms of transportation, being an hour away from London by train, with two airports within a 40-minute drive and a ferry port on the coast.
The salary ranges from £34,000 to £65,000 (pro rata), negotiable based on experience, supplemented by a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid memberships for RCVS, BVA, and VDS, a generous CPD allowance. Visa sponsorship is also offered.
